The municipality of Danderyd is situated ten kilometres north of Stockholm, on three sides surrounded by water. In fifteen minutes the underground or the train takes you to central Stockholm. Danderyd has a long history and there are indications that people may have lived here as early as 5 000 years ago.
Today's modern society
Today Danderyd is a modern society with almost 30.000 inhabitants. A lot of houses are one-family residences, some very large and beautifully situated along the coastline. But most of our inhabitants live in ordinary sized one family-houses or in flats.
Working in Danderyd
The amount of businesses have increased in recent years and today we have about 15.500 jobs in Danderyd. The largest employer is the big hospital of Danderyd and the municipality. The private companies are mainly operating in the service sector such as computing, consulting, insurance etc.
The Castle of Djursholm
The local government is situated in the castle of Djursholm. It was originally built in the beginning of the 16th century. Some parts of the present building originate from the 17th century. For about 300 years the castle was owned by the noble family Banér. A large piece of land also belonged to the castle.
